Amber:

Shayla:
 Amber, we already talked about this. I got the job in LA. I’m leaving tomorrow morning.
Amber:
You can leave. Kai is not going anywhere.
Shayla:
 Don’t do this. He’s my son.
Amber:
 And I’m his mother too. You don’t get to just take him across the country like it’s nothing.
Shayla:
 Like it’s nothing? This is my career. This is our future.
Amber:
 Your future. Not his. Not mine.
Shayla:
 You think LA is dangerous? You think staying here, broke and stuck, is better?
Amber:
 I think ripping him away from everything he knows is cruel.
Kai (quietly):
 Mom… Mommy… why are you yelling?
Shayla kneels down immediately.
Shayla:
 Hey, baby. We’re not yelling at you. We’re just talking.
Amber (voice cracking):
 Don’t lie to him. You’re fighting to take him away from me.
Shayla:
 I’m fighting to give him more.
Amber:
 More what? Hollywood dreams? Long hours? Strangers raising him while you chase fame?
Shayla:
 That’s not fair.
Amber:
 What’s not fair is you deciding all this without me.
Shayla:
 I tried to include you. You shut down every conversation.
Amber:
 Because I knew this would happen. You always choose yourself.
Shayla:
 That’s not true.
Amber:
 Then why does it feel like I’m the only one thinking about Kai staying stable?
Shayla:
 Stable doesn’t mean small.
Amber:
 Stable means home.
Shayla:
 LA can be home.
Amber:
 Not without me.
Shayla:
 So what are you saying? You want full custody?
Amber:
 I want my son to stay here. With his school. With his friends. With me.
Shayla:

Amber:

Amber:

Kai stands up, tears in his eyes.
Kai:

Both women freeze.
Shayla (softly):

Amber:
